R.S. MOSS and Son, Burkes Garden grazers, lost two high bred white face stock cows from rabies last week. This is the first losses of stock from rabid dogs reported this season. For the past few years the county board of supervisors have sponsored annual clinic for the administration of vaccine against rabies which as resulted in a considerable lessening of the malady, however, the dog owners have withdrawn patronage in increasingly greater numbers each year, some 3,000 having responded the first year and only about 600 last year. It is understood that the board of supervisors has been pondering the advisability of compulsory vaccination in an effort to completely eradicating the disease.

Kelley CHRISTIAN, a young man of the Whitaker Ridge community, was taken to a Richlands hospital last Saturday with a bullet wound in his left leg, said to have been fired by Constable Dan TAYLOR who was with a posse of officers headed by Sheriff THOMPSON with George W. COLTON, ABC inspector and deputy sheriff A.O. SPRADLIN, of Amonate. CHRISTIAN is said to be recovering from the injury. Information was received by the officers that a still was in operation in the section mentioned. They congregated near the point, and searched in vain. They then divided, and TAYLOR went up a hollow that hadn't been inspected. Soon afterward he called for help from the other members of the posse, and when they arrived they found the wounded man, TAYLOR stating that he had arrested two men, both of whom ran, and in an effort to stop them he fired three times, and CHRISTIAN stopped. The posse immediately gave first aid, and arranged to carry the wounded man down the mountain side on an improvised stretcher. They took him to Richlands hospital where his would was given attention. It was stated as the men approached the still a lookout sounded a "dog horn" warning to the moonshiners, and when the still was reached it was out of operation. About nine gallons of liquor was confiscated, a pint of which was used to keep the wounded man in condition until he would be taken to the hospital.
